The Annunciation:
God's unique call for me

The Annunciation reminds us that God, likewise, uniquely calls each one of us.

Like Mary, God chooses to involve us as an integral part of his plan of salvation. As St Augustine puts it, "God who created you without you, will not save you without you” (CCC 1847). Just as how the Incarnation was wrought by Mary's 'Fiat', we too pray for the courage to say "yes" to the will of God in our lives.

The call of God is an ongoing discernment

Even in that state of fear, Mary courageously enquired of the Angel, having the grace to understand the consequences of her decision, yet not to be overwhelmed by it. We, too, must unceasingly pray for the gift of wisdom and understanding, so that we too may make informed choices in spite of the uncertainties we face.

In times of trepidation and indecision, let us look to Our Lady as a role model.

“'I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let what you have said be done to me.' On this feast day, let us ask for the strength to finish what has been asked of us and to continually learn to be an instrument of the goodness of God. More importantly, let us always pray that our choices be rightly made, even if they seemed incorrect, trusting always in God's Will and Providence.

Mary, our Mother, pray for us!
