A Fruitful Quarantine

We are slightly past one month of this partial lockdown, how have we been spending it? Our semester is over and summer break has started. Many of us had grand plans for the summer such as internships, part-time jobs, travelling, meeting with friends etc. most of which are shelved or postponed as we stay at home to fight this pandemic. Our schedule is disrupted, our plans cancelled, uncertainty looms over. We have lost control, and this has put us in disarray.

We have lost control and this has put us in disarray.

As I reflect on the past month, for me it has been nothing but lazing around at home. A quick run through of my day consists of waking up in time for lunch, grinding maplestory, dinner followed by endless social media hopping or PlayStation gaming before sleeping. I realised that there was no proper order or routine in my life. Living each day had become a drag and life had lost its meaning. As the article points out, I was simply numbing the pain, trying to escape from reality but that didn’t bring me joy.

After reading this article, I’ve created a schedule (as recommended in the article) and I’m hopeful for how it can help me become more fruitful in my days. I’ve fit in fixed prayer and exercise time together with free time blocks to which I can choose what to do. There is order now, it’s somewhat clearer, which aids in my navigation through this pandemic and summer break. I’ve also realised that there are many available programmes to subscribe to to help me stir my faith, such as CSA summer CGs, OYP daily programmes, and daily mass (weekdays at 1pm).

If you have been lazing about, feeling restless and annoyed at the situation, I urge you to spend time in prayer with the Lord. Read the article and start creating a schedule which is attainable and sustainable, and helps you to bear fruit and hope in your life!
